JV Girls Basketball MVP - Talia Carey
Talia has demonstrated great sportsmanship and strong interest in learning the sport of basketball. This was demonstrated with a solid performance on the court. She averaged 8 points per game. Her defensive strength was evident as the season developed because she was fast on her feet and demonstrated great determination on the ball. Talia demonstrated a kind and supportive attitude towards her fellow team mates. She maintained a mature positive attitude overall. She was eager to attend extra practices with the combined Varsity Girls Basketball team when these were offered. Dedication through regular attendance was noted for both practice and games. This year's team was small with 9 players and it is never easy to choose a most valuable player however Talia is deserving of this award for the 2019 -2020 season. She represented Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive School very well. |
VG Basketball MVP – Abby Benson
Abby had a phenomenal season, even though it started with an injury. She overcame her injury in the new year and never looked back. She was a consistent leader on and off the court, always leading by example. Abby was our leading scorer, averaging 26 points a game (highest was 50 points vs. Garden City in our last league game of the year). She averaged 6 assists, 8 rebounds, 6 steals and had a combined shooting average of 38%. If you had a chance to watch Abby play, you would also notice her defensive intensity – she was a bulldog, hungry for the ball. Abby’s confidence grew throughout the season, which also helped the confidence of her teammates. We wish Abby well as she starts the next chapter in her basketball career, playing for the University of Winnipeg Wesmen next season.
Congratulations Abby!

Varsity Boys MVP – Carlin Doak
Carlin finished off his High School Basketball Career with a stellar season in 2019-2020. As Team Captain of the Royals, he was a true leader, in every sense of the word. Be it scoring, playmaking, rebounding or playing tenacious defence, the Royals had to have Carlin on the floor. He was selected as an All Star at Royals Invitational Tournament and was selected as the player of the game numerous times throughout the season.
Carlin has been an exceptional player for the Royals for the past three seasons. More importantly he has been a fantastic Role Model. His presence will be dearly missed next season.
