Girls Hockey – Morgan Baker
Morgan had an amazing season. Morgan committed to playing for not only our team, but also her AAA Winnipeg Ice hockey team. Even when completely exhausted, both physically and mentally she was able to stand on her head and make the crucial saves. Morgan logged over 1000 minutes of game time and faced almost 900 shots in her 20 games played! She even managed to score a goal and get an assist this season! Morgan was also nominated for the league MVP award. Congratulations Morgan!

Boys Hockey – Raymond Hefferman
Ray is a dominant player on both ends of the ice, where it really shows is on the defensive end. Ray has the skating ability to skate with any attacker and the physical strength to stop or battle with any offensive threats. What makes Ray really stand out is his ability to read the ice. Ray can pick up a puck in the defensive zone and have the understanding and presence of mind to make the correct play to move it up ice, whether by skating it or by making heads up passes. Ray also led our team in scoring this season with 7 goals and 8 assists all while making defense his number one priority. Ray is an impact player, our team captain and we would not have had the success that we did this year without him.

Mike Woloshyn Award – Austin Wasnie
The Mike Woloshyn award is awarded annually to the player who plays with heart and dedication to his team. Our award winner has a very unique story. Our first game of the season, we were facing a tough opponent in St. Paul’s and Austin came through with our first goal of the season that gave us a lead that we wouldn’t relinquish. Unfortunately, in the third period of that game he went first feet into the boards chasing after the puck and tore a ligament in his ankle which required surgery. The Doctor initially told him his season was over. Austin didn’t accept that. While Austin was injured he continued to be a part of the team, attending practice and games. When the opportunity arose, he started to rehab and was able to return in January, three months after his injury. Austin then picked up where he left off and averaged a point per game for the rest of the season. Austin had a choice when his injury occurred, he could have let the injury dictate his year and take the easy route. Instead, Austin worked through his injury and continued to support the team and get better at hockey despite his circumstances and through that was able to return and be a key contributor to our team late in the season.
